Welcome to my Arlenepaints website!  I am a passionate painter, working in acrylic and mixed media, creating landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and abstract works of art. These paintings reflect my sense of wonder as I observe the world around me.

Having spent many years working as a musician and teacher, using aesthetic elements to communicate ideas, I understand the importance of these principals in art. My paintings use colour, line, and pattern, and shape to create visual harmony, balancing areas of intensity and subtlety, excitement and mystery.

My early paintings were inspired by the beauty of nature and the changing face of my home in urban Toronto. These contrasting environments continue to provide a rich source of inspiration for my work. Most recently, I focused on abstract expressionism, sharing a more intuitive and personal response to the environment. These abstract works, on paper and canvas, include a variety of media including acrylic paint, pencil, crayon, and collage elements.
